Whispers of Peace – Bible Reading Plan

“The Word of Scripture should never stop sounding in your ears and working in you all day long, just like the words of someone you love. And just as you do not analyze the words of someone you love, but accept them as they are said to you, accept the Word of Scripture and ponder it in your heart, as Mary did. That is all. . . . Do not ask “How shall I pass this on?” but “What does it say to me?” Then ponder this word long in your heart until it has gone right into you and taken possession of you. “  Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together

God’s Word is His love letter to you.  Take time to savor each word He has written to you.  In this Bible reading plan, I have made the passages shorter, for you to take the time to allow God’s Word to sink into your heart and your soul.

As you spend time reading His Word, treat those moments as you would time with a dear friend.  You are in the

presence of the One who loves you completely and perfectly.

There are many different ways to read scripture, here is what has been working for me lately.

Here are the steps I use:

Read:  Slowly and thoughtfully savor the Word.  Linger whenever a word or phrase touch your heart.

Reflect:  What does the text say to me today, in my life and at this moment?  What is God saying to you in this passage?

Respond: Take some time to talk to God about His Word.  And this is something you can do throughout the day as you continue to meditate on what you have read that day.

Rest:  Rest in God and in His presence.  This is something you can do throughout the day as you remember His Word to you.

As you read scripture we are invited into the presence of God.  He brings to us the gifts we need at that moment: peace, hope, joy, comfort, and strength.  Listen to the Whispers of Peace woven through God’s Story which is your story.
