Embrace the ordinary moments!

I am linking up for Five Minute Friday.  The FMF is hosted by Kate Motaung on her blog Heading Home. Today’s prompt is “embrace.”

As I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, this picture captivated my heart.

My mind wandered back to the beautiful bouquets of dandelions given to me by dirt stained hands.  In my heart I can see the chubby cheeks laced with traces of mud and smiles that filled my heart with joy. Memories come forth of little boys dancing with expectant anticipation over hearing the delight in their Mommy’s voice over the precious present they have proudly presented to her.

Spilling faster and faster, memories of ordinary moments come forth and they start to trickle down my face.

Picnics at our beautiful church camp and hunting for tadpoles.

Matthew proudly pointing at the Weeping Willow and saying, “Mommy look!  There is that sad tree”!

Jacob catching a game winning fly ball for the first time, and the look of pure joy on his face and the exuberant leap of excitement that can only come from an 8 year old boy.

Dancing at a wedding with all of my handsome guys, and feeling like the most special woman in the whole world.

Giggling boys, sneaking in between Troy and I so that they could have kisses too.  Affectionately called a kiss sandwich in our household.

Hunting for fireflies under the brilliant twinkling stars.

Singing songs at the top of our lungs together over and over again until we are out of breath and sides aching with laughter.

Reading the same story at least 20 times in one day…and I can still hear the faint echoes of one more time Mommy please.

Little voices lifted up in prayer to Jesus.

Fishing trips with Grandpa.

Playing cards with Grandma.

Looks of wonder at every new experience.

All of these moments have become extraordinary memories.  I can pick them up and hold them close to my heart as I marvel at what God has done.  God has blessed us with two amazing boys, they are actually closer to being young men, but my heart has not caught up to how quickly time passes.

Embrace each ordinary moment because they will quickly become your greatest treasures.
